Negotiating Host Network Agreements

An MVNO’s lifeline is its agreement with a Mobile Network Operator (MNO). These negotiations are notoriously difficult, especially for new players without leverage. Key issues include wholesale pricing, quality of service, access to 5G/VoLTE, and service-level agreements (SLAs). Host MNOs may impose restrictions that limit innovation or delay upgrades. A poorly negotiated contract can destroy profit margins or restrict network access during peak demand. Building a mutually beneficial relationship with the host carrier is critical, but it often requires time, technical readiness, and strong negotiation skills.
